what is gemateia?

gemateia, a Greek word meaning 'pointing' or 'to count', is a method of divination used by magicians and scholars in ancient Greece. It is an arcane practice that draws on the power of the planets and stars, using astrology and numerology to gain insight into the future or answer questions about the present. Unlike some forms of divination, gemateia does not attempt to evoke responses from spirits or deities; instead, it uses a complex system of symbols and numbers to gain access to divine knowledge.

Gemateia works on the assumption that all matter in the universe contains powers that can be understood and manipulated through mathematics. Everything from plants and animals to people are seen as connected via a web of mathematical correspondences, with certain numbers having special significance for each individual. Through calculating these special correspondences for an individual, gemateia diviners are able to make predictions about their living situation, health, wealth, major life events, relationships, and more. They may also be able to offer advice on how an individual can use their connections with the cosmos to alter their luck or improve their circumstances.

Gemateia was used by many ancient civilizations around the world for centuries. By studying patterns in elements like weather patterns, planetary alignments, and historical events alongside numerical values associated with names and dates—gemateians were able to predict future events with remarkable accuracy. Today this practice is still alive in certain circles. In fact some modern-day astrologers rely heavily on gemateia principles when conducting readings or making predictions about people's futures.
